Financial Management is an introductory course in finance that teaches the fundamental issues of financial management and the quantitative tools to analyze corporate financial decision making. The course begins with learning how cash flows are generated in a typical corporation. We then learn to assess the value of an asset, project, or a corporation by examining the timing, magnitude and riskiness of their cash flows. The concept of valuation is applied to making capital investment decisions and financing decisions, including dividend policies.
The course has three main objectives:
1) Develop an understanding of the tools that are used to value investment projects and companies (valuation)
2) Understand the basic issues involved in how firms should raise funds for their real investments (financing)
3) Evaluate how investment and financing decisions are related.
Upon completing this course, the students are expected to apply the principles and concepts of financial management to solve the real world financial decision making problems.
